NCC Youth Player Profiles


   January 2008 - Su’ad Yoon


     Su’ad Yoon represented Tennessee at the Susan Polgar Invitational for Girls held in conjunction with the U.S. Open in Cherry Hill, New Jersey July 31 – August 4.  The “Polgar” field is comprised of the top female chess players age 19 or younger from each state. 

     With a pre-tournament rating of 1612, Su’ad, who will be a sophomore at MLK High School in Nashville this fall, was seeded 25th in the 49-player field.  Despite playing both tournament co-champions, as well as the sixth, ninth and fourteenth place finishers, Su’ad finished with a more than respectable 3½ points over six rounds for a sparkling 1798 performance rating.  Here is Su’ad’s second-round upset of the eventual tournament co-champion:
